Sara Belga, MD, MPH, is a clinical assistant professor in the division of infectious diseases at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and a consultant at BC Transplant, Canada. She graduated from medical school at the University of Lisbon. She completed Internal Medicine, Adult Infectious Diseases, and Transplant Infectious Diseases at the University of Alberta. Dr. Belga joined the Transplant Infectious Disease program for the province of British Columbia in 2019. She obtained a Master of Public Health from the Bloomberg School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins University, in 2023. She is the director of the Transplant Infectious Disease Research Program at UBC and a member of the Organ Donation and Transplant Research Foundation of BC Scientific Advisory Board. Dr. Belga’s research program aims to tackle the challenge of post-transplant infections by integrating new anti-pathogen immune monitoring assays to accurately identify transplant recipients at high risk of infection and examining key associations between infection-related exposures and outcomes based on large data registries.
