Dr. Davide Cina is a urology resident and postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Urologic Sciences and Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of British Columbia.
Prior to residency, he completed a combined MD-PhD degree in renal cell-biology which he started at the University of Toronto and then finished at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine where he followed his PhD supervisor. His PhD work was focused on discovering novel genes that regulate the structure and function of Podocytes, a specialized cell in the kidney. This work was supported by the CIHR Vanier Canadian Graduate Scholarship.
During his residency, Davide developed a keen interest in clinical renal transplant through the high-volume renal transplant program housed at Vancouver General Hospital and Saint Paul’s Hospital. With the support of mentors in the Department of Urologic Sciences and the transplant program, he has been fortunate to be able to pursue this passion through research as well. His research will focus on developing novel tools for monitoring the immune system of transplant patients and detect immune rejection before kidney damage happens.
